Google Permissions for the WP Mail SMTP Google Gmail Mailer with One-Click Setup

In order for the WP Mail SMTP Google Gmail mailer with a one-click setup to work seamlessly, a few permissions are granted by users during the Google Gmail mailer setup. This only applies to you if you choose to use the WP Mail SMTP Google Gmail mailer with the one-click setup option enabled.

Below is a list of Google permissions we ask for and what WP Mail SMTP uses them for.

Google Gmail API – gmail.send

WP Mail SMTP uses this permission to allow you to send emails from your WordPress site with your connected Google account.

Google Userinfo Email – userinfo.email

WP Mail SMTP uses this permission to display your email address in our plugin settings, so you know which Google account is connected to your WordPress site.

We also use this to enable Login with Google functionality, for security permissions retainment/enforcement, marketing new features/offers, and for ownership detail monitoring.
