  1. I am not very experienced in website software do this is probably a silly question. I have uploaded Wp mail SMTP and configured it with Sendinblue and have an activated account with Sendinblue. I don’t understand the relationship. Sendinblue appears to be a site that hosts the subscribers and from which you build the newsletter and send out. I was trying to create and send emails from my wordpress site through sendinblue but this does not seem to be what is happening. How does WP Mail SMTP work with Sendinblue if they are an external site to my wordpress account and maintain subscribers and email directly out of their page

    1. Hi Lynden,

Great question! Sendinblue does also offer email marketing services — however those have no relationship to what WP Mail SMTP does. It’s just sort of like how Google offers email along with tons of other services, and you can have one Google account but choose to use only email, or whichever additional services you might like.

So as far as WP Mail SMTP goes, there is zero communication with their marketing services. If you choose to use Sendinblue to send out marketing emails, they’ll handle the delivery of those emails within their own servers (totally separate).

Instead, WP Mail SMTP will help emails that are sent our from your own site to successfully deliver. If you choose to use the Sendinblue mailer within WP Mail SMTP to do this, then WP Mail SMTP (from within your website) will communicate with Sendinblue over their API. This communication is what allows the emails sent from your site to get to their destination reliably.

However, this process will not create a mailing list, etc in Sendinblue (again, these services are totally separate).

I hope this makes sense! If you have any additional questions, please feel welcome to contact our support team. Thanks! 🙂

  2. I am new to wordpress and I have been doing a bit of reading recently and something doesn’t sit right.

Sendinblue from what I have read has a wordpress plugin which can be used with an API from Sendinblue. What then is the rationale behind supporting Sendinblue in WP Mail SMTP?

Isn’t that like having two solutions for the same problem?

    1. Hi Eno – Great question! Sendinblue does offer its own WordPress plugin. However, the goals on that are broader — their plugin is mainly intended to integrate with Sendinblue’s email marketing services (with email delivery improvements as an additional feature).

WP Mail SMTP, on the other hand, is specifically intended to improve email deliverability. So if you intend to use Sendinblue’s email marketing service, then their plugin will likely make more sense. But if you’re specifically looking to improve email delivery, then WP Mail SMTP will almost definitely make more sense. That way, you use Sendinblue as your mailer or have the flexibility to choose from a range of other mailer options (or to switch down the road) without having to install a separate plugin. Plus our whole focus is on sending emails reliably within WordPress.

      I hope this helps! 🙂
