Today, we’re excited to announce a new version of WP Mail SMTP with features that will enable you to unlock the next level of efficiency and reliability in your WordPress emails.
With WP Mail SMTP 4.0, we’re thrilled to introduce two groundbreaking features designed to transform the way your website handles transactional emails: Email rate limiting and optimized sending.
Stress-Free Email Scaling Solutions
From the moment someone makes a purchase or creates an account, every email sent from your site connects your business’s operations to its most valuable asset: your customers.
But as your business grows, so too does the volume of these messages. More emails mean more strain on resources.
The challenge is to ensure your critical emails not only reach their destination but do so without overburdening your server or the need for expensive upgrades.
With the latest version of WP Mail SMTP, we wanted to give you the power to control the emails sent from your site in the simplest way possible.
Optimized Email Sending
Activating optimized email sending in WP Mail SMTP couldn’t be quicker or easier – just a single click does the trick!
Yet, beneath this simplicity lies a robust feature that operates seamlessly behind the scenes. It ensures that your users continue to enjoy fast interactions with your site, unaffected by the increasing volume of emails.
When you activate optimized email sending, WP Mail SMTP will send your emails asynchronously.
This means when a user submits a contact form, signs up for a newsletter, or completes checkout, they’ll see an instant “success” notification in the browser, while emails are quietly queued up, ready for sending in the background without interrupting the experience.
Activating this feature can speed up page load speed by several seconds, in exchange for delaying email sending by a minute or two.
Email Rate Limiting
Many SMTP servers impose a limit on the number of emails you can send. For example, Gmail allows you to send up to 500 emails each day from free accounts, and if you exceed this limit your account may be blocked temporarily. Other mail servers impose hourly or monthly limits.
This limit is usually part of the service provider’s efforts to manage resources, prevent spam, and ensure everything runs smoothly. But if your website sends a lot of email without considering these limits, you could encounter several issues:
- Failed Email Deliveries: If you exceed the set limits, the SMTP server may refuse to send any more emails until the limit resets. This can result in important emails not being sent on time, affecting communication with your users or customers.
- Automatic Plan Upgrades: Some providers may automatically upgrade your account to a higher plan with higher sending limits if you consistently hit or exceed your limit. While this resolves the immediate issue of blocked emails, it also means higher costs, which might not be necessary if you only exceed the limits occasionally.
- Reputation Damage: Consistently hitting or exceeding the sending limits can also flag your account for potential spamming activity, negatively impacting your sender reputation with ISPs and email service providers.
Email rate limiting, available in WP Mail SMTP Pro, is our answer to managing a surge in email traffic without exceeding your SMTP server’s limits.
This feature intelligently throttles your email sending rates to a number you set, ensuring compliance with service limits while avoiding unnecessary upgrades or costs.
Simply set the maximum number of emails your website can send per minute, hour, day, week, or month in the plugin. Any emails triggered after the limit is set will be queued for later sending.
There’s More to Come!
With the latest enhancements to WP Mail SMTP, you can ensure your emails are sent consistently and delivered reliably, maintaining your sender reputation and keeping everything running smoothly, especially during those peak traffic moments.
We’re here to ensure that as your business grows, no email is left behind!
We’d love to know what you think of our new features. And we’re always on the lookout for more ideas for future updates, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any ideas of how we can do better.
